About batjay

I am an overseas filipino worker. Now, I am part of that "babalik ka rin crowd" you see around christmas time, arriving at the NAIA in droves from all over, gold chain around their necks, in jeans and maong jacket, ray-ban shades, goatee, and baseball cap, pababa pa lang ang eroplano kinukuha na ang hand-carry luggage at nagpapalakpakan na't handang halikan ang lupa pagka-landing!

MGA BAGONG BINABASANG COMICS

The Matrix Reloaded + IMAX

The Matrix Reloaded + IMAX = bwakanginangyan, ang galing! the only place still showing “the matrix reloaded” in singapore is the Golden Village IMAX Cinema inside the Great World City. buti na lang at naging busy ako at ngayon lang nagka oras manood. watching “The Matrix Reloaded: The IMAX Experience” was the best theater experience i have ever had. man, i was really entertained.ibang klase ang IMAX experience: big and soft cushion seats, malaking leg room, unobstructed view of the eight story high screen (kitang kita ko ang mga tagyawat ni keanu), 12000 watts of digital surround sound, malinis na sinehan, mabait na staff…sulit ang bayad.

ANG BAGONG JAGUAR SA OPIS

mayron bagong securty guard sa opis namin. long hair, may malaking tinted na reading glasses. either malay siya or bumbay, or maybe a mix of both. kamukha niya si Roy Orbison. bihisan ko lang siya ng itim na amerikana, pwede nang pakantahin ng “only the lonely”, “crying” at “pretty woman”.

idol ko si roy orbison. paborito din siya ng halos lahat ng mga paborito kong rockers, in particular, the beatles, who toured with roy orbison in the 60’s. kung titingnan mo yung mga early mtv ng beatles, yung shades ni john lennon ay pareho ng kay orbison. sa isang interview, paul was talking about how roy started composing “pretty woman” at the back of a bus while he was touring in england with the beatles. “please, please me” was inspired by roy and later on when they were touring, their song writing really became competitive. the stones also loved orbison and “pretty woman” inspired them to write “i can’t get no satisfaction”.

IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD

i remember the first time i heard the moody blues. i was 11 years old and this was sometime in the late 70’s. nasa bahay ako ng mga auntie ko sa pasay at pinasahan ako ni dante ng “in search of the lost chord”. nakalimutan ko na yung mga cuts dito, pero what i remember is the great artwork of the LP and the admonition of my tiyong amon nung marinig nya yung mga kanta – “tangnang aga-aga, kung ano anong katarantaduhan ang pinapatugtog nyo!“. hehehe. rock and roll!

happy birthday to my brother dante. birthday nya kahapon.

IF YOUR NAME IS DUBYA…

if your name is dubya, try this link: Cannot find Weapons of Mass Destruction… hehehe. hoy georgie boy, fucking hilarious, don’t you think?

LONDON, England (Reuters) — A Web site lampooning the United States’ inability to locate weapons of mass destruction in Iraq has become one of the biggest hits on the Internet.

The site, which is designed to look like a genuine error message — replete with “bomb” icon — is the top result when “weapons of mass destruction” is entered into one of the Web’s top search engines, Google.com

AGE CHECK POP QUIZ

o sige, mag check tayo ng mga edad…

3. sino ang babaeng lead ng “the bionic woman”?

4. sino ang bida sa tang-ta-rang-tang na kalbong pinoy comedian?

WHAT I HAVE FINISHED READING

Q: what have i finished reading?
A: really old comic books

“Ronin” by frank miller. its release (20 years ago) was a graphic novel milestone. probably where some ideas on the matrix story came from, i’m not sure.

“Preacher: Gone to Texas” by garth ennis and steve dillon. hmmm… kung tatanungin mo sa akin kung may patayan dito sa comics na ito. hehehe… mayron. marami. definitely for mature readers only. it’s gory, it’s bloody, it’s violent, it’s really good. click the links above and read the reviews, tinatamad akong mag kwento eh.

and so, last weekend, in between taking naps and sleeping, i finished these two comic books. antonia came over last sunday afternoon for lunch. but other than than that, jet (bless her), just let me rest for the whole two days. one moment i’m watching tv, the next moment, it’s already 1 AM and i missed “ocean’s 11” and “six feet under” (that’s 4 hours i spent in front of the tv without really watching. dang). tapos, in that state between waking up and sleeping, i read the comic books. this is the way to read, when you’re in dreamland but already awake (or vice versa: you’re awake but still asleep). somehow, the stories seem more vivid.

i used to do this a lot when i was watching the mangga classic “ghost in the shell” on DVD. i come home from work and am very tired, switch on the DVD and let the cartoon put me to sleep. galing. next day, i do it again, and agan… until i eventually finished the damn anime. isa pa itong movie na ito na nag influence ng matrix story.

what i’m (still) currently reading:
a cook’s tour by tony bourdain

LONGGANISANG TUTUO

here i am back in singapore, riding the bus and train on the way to work. picking up the free newspaper at the train station so i won’t get bored on the 45 minutes that it takes me to travel from home to office.

inside the train: there i am, reading the weird news that once in a while pops up in the otherwise boring singapore newspapers…. whoa!!!! mahalagang weirdong balita ito: isang lalaki sa malaysia ang pumutol, nagluto at kumain ng sarili niyang pagkalalaki kahapon.

kundi ba naman sira ulo! puputol lang ng tarugo eh linggo pa ginawa. GAGO!

FISH EYES AND DRUNKEN PRAWNS
