Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me

nakikinig ako ngayon sa “rust never sleeps” ni neil young. all of a sudden i’m 13 years old and its 1979 again. music is a fucking time machine. it’s funny how memory works – naalala ko pa rin ang mga lyrics ng kanta, even if i haven’t heard it in 29 years. huli ko itong pinakinggan, first year high school ako at malapit nang maghiwalay ang mga parents ko. sanay na sanay na rin akong magjakol nung panahong ‘yon at nagsisimula nang magkaroon ng interest ang opposite sex sa akin. i remember everything.

  4. ok din pala iyong sail away lalo na iyong lyrics … i could live inside a tepee ..i could die in penthouse 35..you could loose me on the freeway…but i would still make it back alive.. as long as we can sail away…side a country side b grunge..with lots of metal work.one of the best albums

  5. i did’nt grew up to those music kasi 80’s ako pinanganak but hearing neil young and the likes from an old friend’s collection and from this blog too,(so thanks sir batjay)… masasabi kong neil young’s generation had the greatest composers and musicians. the lyrics are simple but strong and so full of passion…he told me that he dedicated ‘once an angel'(from the album old ways) to his wife “because that’s exactly what i wanted and how i wanted to say to her”..seeing what they’ve been through and hearing the song masasabi kong he could’nt have picked a better song…..i guess this part explains it
    There’ve been times when
    I’ve treated you so badly
    I’ve done things I know
    You’ll never understand.

    But you take me back
    Turn your eyes
    towards the window
    Where you hide the tears
You don’t want me to see.

    Once an angel
    Always an angel
    You’re as close to heaven
    As I’ll ever be.

  6. neil young’s wife peggy is an artist as well and performs with him all the time. what a great couple. you should get his heart of gold DVD, it’s directed by jonathan demme and is one of the best concert movies you can watch right now. peggy is there as well.

oo tony – ang side A ay acoustic set. this was done before MTV’s unplugged. side B naman ay heavy punk influenced rock and roll with crazy horse. “rust never sleeps” and “comes a time”, both recorded in 1979 by neil young are real gems. that and “after the gold rush” are my all time favorites.

  7. ayoko siguro marinig ulit yung mga kantang kinalakihan ko waaa!!

    mga tipong

kaya kahit di ko panahon sila neil young gusto ko sila.

right now addict naman ako sa RUSH 😀

  8. ok yan tol, hanggang ngayon buo pa yong cassete tape ko ng rust never sleep..meron din akong DECADES,AFTER THE GOLDRUSH,kung saan nandon lahat ng musikang nakalakihan ko..rock and roll jay!!!!

  9. from plaka, tape to CD – mayroon ako. kaya lang yung plaka at tape nagunaw na. pero isa isa ko nang binibili sa CD yung mga records na kinalakihan ko, kaya nagkaroon ako ng chance para marinig ang rust never sleeps again.

  10. malapit na rin maphase out ang cd but i think the music of neil young never dies in what ever kind of recording. his heart of gold concert movie is really a classic a must see movie on dvd. he is fond of giving accolades to other artist in his songs remember johnny rotten and elvis presley his two kings.

  11. I agree with you na maganda nga ang pakiramdam “rediscovering” an old song one used to love listening to. In a way, the song becomes more meaningful too kasi para bang marami na kayong sabay na pinag-daanan.

  12. Palagi kong tinitipa yung “The Needle and the Damage Done” pag naaalala ko yung friend kong maagang pumanaw. Gusto ko rin yung guitar play nang “Down by the River”. I can still hear it in my head now and then.

  13. i love down by the river too. ang dami talagang mga kanta ni neil young na nakastore sa madumi kong utak. ang paborito ko sa kanya lately ay ang harvest moon.

sabi ko nga, an old song is like a dear friend.

kahit ano naman ang lumabas in the future, tony, babilhin ko pa rin. ngayon nga, lahat ng mga cd ko ay nasa PC at ipod ko na rin kaya pwede akong makinig kahit saan ako naroon.

  14. i started collecting neil young in my teens the seventies , na turn on ako sa after the gold rush the title cut .masyadong cool iyong boses plus iyong lyrics madaling matanim sa utak”i was thinkin about what a friend had said i was hopin it was a lie” mula nun neil young disciple na tayo ,pati obscure record niya in the eighties which alienate him from most of his fans, umiskor din ako. para kasing san miguelbeer iyan gusto mo you drink to the last drop, kahit na anong product ng san miguel gusto mong tikman lahat.

  15. Ako rin may kopya nang LP’s nang “After the Gold Rush” at “Decades”. Marami talagang fans (me included) yang folk singer na yan na hinde naliligo at palaging may sipon.

  16. I just bought Elvis’ albums and jukebox oldies cds yesterday.

  17. i love elvis. nanghihinayang nga ako, sana narito kami sa states when he was still performing in vegas. now all i see are impersonators.

after the gold rush was i think, one of earliest favorite albums. i know all the songs in the record and like most of my favorites, mayroon akong lp, tape at cd.

neil young, jackson browne, pink floyd, deep purple – these are all my childhood favorites. maaga kasi akong na expose. 5 years old pa lang, rocker na ako.

  18. My early teen music was angst ridden, very introverted, and sometimes even borderline suicidal. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and the like.

Thankfully I do know the baby boomer repertoire and the innocence and hopefulness of 80’s glam rock. So when I go back to my childhood, sana naman hwag puro “galit sa mundo”.

  19. i love good ole neil. pocahontas, isa ito sa mga fave ko along with look out for my love, like a hurricane, rockin in the free world & from hank to hendrix. i grew up with the classic rock staples playing in our turntablel. i now work in a call center & i’m considered a dinosaur – old school rocker daw. funny how time flies…
