dalawang linggo na lang at tatakbo na ako sa rock and roll marathon sa san diego. kinakabahan na nga ako dahil ito ang una kong long race. who would have thought that i would have even attempted to run this fucking race? kahit ako, nagulat na tatakbo ng 26.2 miles – isang dating 2 pack a day smoker na 42 year old diabetic. siguro, ito ang version ko ng mid-life crisis. in a way, gusto kong patunayan sa sarili ko na kahit matanda na ako ay may asim pa rin, kahit papaano.
pero, iniisip ko nga kung gagawin ko pa ito ulit. masarap yung high ng physical exertion pero mahirap mag train para sa isang marathon. every day you have to work out – long runs during the weekend with each week increasing in distance. in between, bike to and from work 3 to 4 times a week. long walks at night, weight training during lunch break, sprint runs 3 times a week.
Sige lang Jay, in this kind of competition, its not “how” but “when” you finish the race naman e. You have no adversary here but yourself.
thank you.
actually, “how” determines “when” as in how you train determines when you finish.
and no, the adversary is not myself.
I said what I said because for me, just finishing a marathon is an achievement enough. Imagine 26+ miles, e 5K lang ang kaya ko.
Mukhang siniseryoso mo talaga ang marathon na to ah. Don’t tell me you’re actually aiming to place inside the top 100 runners? If you are then.. Go! Go! Go!
finish the race in under 5 hours, that’s my goal. pero masaya na ako sa 6.
Best of luck! Kayang-kaya mo iyan!
thank you, easier said than done.
Hi Jay…. katatapos lang namin takbuhin ang 20-miles on May 10. From Yorba Regional Park (at the 20-mile mark) all the way to Huntington Beach! I finished the whole thing in 4 hours, using the run/walk method (3min run/1min walk). If I keep this pace throughout the race, I should be done in around 5 and a half hours! Hopefully makita kita.. I’ll be in corral 21.
hey richy. good for you. sinubukan kong mag 20 miles nung saturday pero kinapos ako. masyadong mainit. i ended up doing 17 miles. etong next two weeks, puro light runs na lang ako. maybe i am going to do 10 miles this sunday. but that’s it. i just hope that i’ve trained enough. corral 12 ata ako, if i am not mistaken. good luck.
‘Gandang hapon Jay!
Our family will be in San Diego on June 1st to lend support to my brother (RichY) who will be there too. We’ll wait for you both at the finish line! We’ll be there over the weekend kaya kung wala kayong plano, let us know if (and when) it would be a good idea to get together…(I know the time would be too short para makipagkuwentuhan, kaya okay lang kung “hi and bye” ang tagpo natin at sasalubungin na lang namin kayo kinabukasan.)
hey classmate daisy.
‘
that’s great. sige, kita kita tayo roon sa finish line. gawa ka rin ng poster para sa akin. hehehe. we’ll be there saturday to monday. kita tayo ng after the race.
tol,
i sincerely hope that you have trained well enough on this marathon race. 26+ miles is no joke brod. sabi ko nga sa nephew kong philippine marine, DAIG NG MAGULANG ANG MATAPANG. don’t let pride take the best of reason.
good luck tol……..bong
Jay, this is technical, but I know your also an engineer. Do you have a pace factor of 0.75 or more? If yes, then maintain a speed (at slow pace or walk) of three steps per second. If you could keep this up, I’m sure you’ll finish in 5 hours or less.
Good luck!
life begins at 40 daw sir, totoo siguro yun…
good luck sir batjay! with your discipline, the adversary is not yourself. lets just hope that the fuckin road will be smooth this time. Ü
hi unkyel, i was just thinking of you when i was at the bike store with my kids the other day. they bike store have flyers and banners for that race you’re going to be on of the rock and rollers. i’ve forgotten about it since you haven’t been posting your usual run.
we are all rooting for you, unkyel. i wish i can join anti and keep her company on the day you’re running. it will be a lot of fun. ooh rah!
hi mye. oo nga, kailangan ni jet ng kasama doon sa finish line because i expect to finish after 6 hours. that’s a long wait for her. i hope tintin can join her. i was travelling kaya i missed 3 weeks of training. i hope i can still finish in spite of.
lyzius: sige, nasa san diego ka ba based?
JENNYPENG!
basta, goal ko ay under 6 hours. i’ll be extremely happy kung less than 5.
Jay,
Say mo pinsan?
-Imo
pinsan!
kung sakaling nasa SD ka ng day of the race, gawa ka na lang ng “GO BATJAY GO!” sign para pampatanggal ng pagod.
ingat imo.
jay
Good luck! I hope you reach your goal of 5 hours (give or take a few minutes). Keep safe and don’t forget to charge up your ipod. With all the prep work you’ve been doing, the goal is within reach…
it will be smooth but it will not be flat.
ilang araw na lang…good luck! unsolicited advice na naman ako hehehe… at this point, your body is as ready as it can be…you’ve already put in the mileage with the training, now more than ever focus on the mental aspect…start slow, when you get to the half you should feel great – this will ensure that you’ll be fine for the 2nd half…always remember to hydrate yourself properly throughout the course…and most of all, have fun along the way! this is one hell of a journey so enjoy it! sayang, makiki-suporta sana ako kaya lang may half naman ako sa indiana on the 31st…sana may kasunod pa…see you at the san antonio rock n’ roll? november pa naman yun eh, kaya pang mag-training ulit hehehe
huling hirit – body glide!!!!
hey heidi.
thanks. worried nga ako kasi nag travel ako at medyo nagkasakit kaya 3 weekends ay wala akong long run. i’ve managed to do 18 as my longest. that will have to do. goal ko lang ngayon is to cross the finish line in less than 6 hours. tama ka, all the rest in mental from now on. i’m seriously thinking if i am going to do this again. ang hirap kasing mag train. i guess it all will depend on how much i enjoy the actual race.
ingat,
jay
Hehehe! Oops, sorry, natawa din pala ako… 😀
