kung mayroon kayong oras na magbasa ng isang libro lang during this month, ipagpaliban na muna ninyo yung pagbasa ng burikak bastos magazine. make it the principles of uncertainty by maira kalman. bumili si jet ng kopya bago magpasko and i’m very happy that she did. it’s one of my favorite books this year and is one of the ten best of 2007, according to TIME magazine.
it’s not really a graphic novel but then again, it’s also not a standard book. ewan ko, mahirap siyang i-define at hindi ko na pag aaksayahan ng panahon na alamin kung anong klase itong libro. basta ang importante ay ok itong basahin. impak, hindi nga namin ito mabitawan ni jet at nag ja-jack en poy pa kami para sa kung sino ang unang magbabasa.
RUNNER’S UP:
- post secret and the onion’s our dumb world
- dear future me
- bob spitz’s monster book – the beatles (on sale ngayon sa barnes and nobles for $8 – what a fucking bargain. yeah! yeah! yeah!)
yes, principles is indeed a fascinating book. may-pagka existentialist ang approach, and the texts – though meager – provide a lot of social constructs to think about. salamat po sa inyo at kay jet sa kopya.
I especially liked the naivete in MAria Kalma’s artworks. Mahanap nga dito yan.
sana availalble sa pilipinas. kung wala, alam ko na kung ano ang ireregalo sa iyo sa pasko.
meager texts, the kind of book for people like me who have short attention spans.
I LOVE PRINCIPLES!!!
and at first I was just attracted to the paleness and simplicity of the cover
I started reading and I said, ‘Oh it’s a picture book!’
I continued reading and said, ‘Oh it’s a funny picture book!’
Turned a few more pages and I thought, ‘The artwork is so honest, it doesn’t mean to impress or anything but it has a charm of its own. The text doesn’t seem to be enough to make a book, they seem to be more like captions and yet they are more than just captions. So much more because there’s no way you will not think about it afterwards.
And then Time comes up and says it’s one of the 10 best for the year. Who would have thought. I bet Maira didn’t. She probably was just doing something she loved doing.
If I had the money, I’d give everyone I know a copy.
thank you mylab.
i couldn’t have said it any better.dahil sa aking limited writing skills, i can only say “it’s good, go read it” in my post. buti na lang at nariyan ka parati to explain why.
labU.
sana meron nyan dito sa pinas.
baka pag may nag request sa powerbooks or fully booked ay magbenta sila.
The Beatles book for me. 🙂
good choice. cheap price, great writing.
thanks unkel, im on your book club.

i browsed through your flicker, and your picture with the volcano background, you were 28? wow. unkyel, you’re not much older than me, you’re older, but not much….well…
i really like your new house. it’s cozy. also, is it safe to assume that you are an ass-man? i’ve seen a lot of pics of auntie’s back pose. nice!
42 year old ass and breast man.
gusto kong basahin yan, jay. some day, one day.
i’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
