There's one for you, nineteen for me

isa sa mga mahirap ma take dito sa california ay ang damiing bawas sa suweldo. tinitingnan ko nga ang payslip ko eh parang litanya ng dasal ang mga deductions – income tax, preyporas. state tax, preyporas, disability tax, preyporas… enso-on, enso-port. AMEN.

isa isahin nga natin – may income tax na super laki (sabi ko nga 3 times more than what i paid for in singapore). may state tax na pupunta kay governor arnie (bwakanginang i’ll be back na yan), may old age survivor and disability Insurance (ano bang ibig sabihin nito? may suwledo ka pag tanda mo at buhay ka pa?), may disable tax (ano ito – disability insurance na, disable tax pa), may life insurance, mayroong legal fund (para pag nahuli ako ng pulis, may darating na abogado na aareglo sa kaso ko), may 401K contribution, health care deductions (nagamit na namin ito para sa pag pagamot kay jet), may dental plan para pag nagpa pustiso ako ay maliit lang ang bayad (gusto ko kasing gawing puro bagang ang ngipin ko, hehehe) at panghuli ay ang vision plan – para yata ito sa kung sakaling lumabo ang mata ko dahil sa sobrang pagjajakol.

  1. naku sinabi mo..lalo na kung single ka..mas malaki ang kaltas. bababa lang ang tax mo pag marami ka lalong utang like house mortgage or kapag maraming kids 🙂

parang bale wala yung gross dahil halos kulang talaga ang take home pay

  2. kakaiba nga sa dami ng deductions.. on the brighter side, whatever you net you convert to peso para mas malaki. 🙂

sayang tito batjay, di na tayo magkikita-kita. who knows baka next year nandito ulit kami.

enjoy your time in vegas and ingat!

  3. tama si tin, sir. Dito mo gastahin yan at milya-milya aabutin ng pera mo. Gusto mo subukan natin.

  4. Do you have an FSA plan? Maybe you can contribute to that after the first of the year–that way, it’s pre-tax dollars that will cover your healthcare costs. (This is the business my husband is in–healthcare benefits management.)

And don’t forget to pray to our lady of taxes, ok? 🙂

  5. hay nako…talagang ganyan dito sa tate, walang iskapo..e di lalo na sa employers, kasi match nila mga taxes na binabayad natin plus kung me insurance pa..yung iba nga na medyo malakas sa employers nila, nag a under da teybol na lang na me pinapakitang konting take home para maka save sa taxes plus malaki pa refund by the end of the year…the rest, just plain ol’ hard kash! easy ka lang pare, in about a year, pag nahalata mo na lagas na buhok mo, ibig sabihin palagay ka na sa tate- hehehe!!

    waiting for your reply…

  7. hi barb.

i have a PPA plan under cigna. i’ve actually used it already because my wife had a check up recently. it works for us. and yes, this is paid for using my pre-tax dollars. so your husband works in this line of business. that’s really cool. taxes, taxes, deductions, deductions… i pay and pray.

  8. oh no. batjay, be thankful they don’t tax you for owning a freaking tv set! in france there’s something called audiovisual tax! buti na lang i don’t have a tv. i do have an imaginary cat though so nakikinood ako sa imaginary tv ng imaginary cat ko.

    delusions.

  10. TV License is a “BBC” thing kamo… Tony Blair promised to scrap it pero hanggang ngayon we pay 100+gbp a year to keep a tv set, cheaper kung black & white.

And you know what, if you were blind but you have a PC monitor or an unused TV, you still need to pay a license… They’ve got vans fitted with signal detectors that roam the country. If they find a signal from your house & you’ve no license they can “raid” your place ala-NBI hehe

  11. auee!

so that’s where the singaporeans got the TV tax. dahil british colony eh mayroon ding bayad. sabi ko nga, in our case, i pay $120 for the TV that i have in the room. hindi ko alam kung paano nilang nalaman, suddenly, i just got a bill asking me to pay the TV tax. siguro, they get that information from the store where we got the TV set.

  12. Yup isa yan sa ways pati dito… The stores are required to send your details to the TV License eklat.

They want to increase the license fee by 2.3% the inflation rate! Nung tinanong sya how they expect the people to shoulder that increase when most of us don’t even get salary increase of 1% the inflation ang sagot nung BBC chief “yes they would find it a challenge” — buset!

well actually, yung ERP ay ginaya ng city of london. you guys now charge extra for cars to get into the city. it’s been this way in singapore for a number of years now and they do it electronically. may sensor in each car that deducts a certain amount in your cash card every time you enter in to the zone.
