FROM A HEATHEN AND A PAGAN ON THE SIDE OF THE REBEL JESUS

BWAHAHAHAHA (tawang demonyo).

  1. hay naku.. sabi nga ni Cita Astals na councilor sa Manila “It’s only a movie!”

eh bakit yung cardinal dito sa baltimore, ang sabi lang nya, as long daw as alam ng mga tao na this is just a work of fiction.

What about ‘fiction’ that people don’t understand? Does this mean that their faith is that vulnerable that no one can even ‘suppose’? so what will happen when all the pirated dvds come out? πŸ™‚

  5. Sa tingin ko yun ang mas offensive. That something as simple and off-the-sidewalk-commonplace as a movie can’t be readily afforded and enjoyed by Filipinos.

Guess this is what we get from having an anal government.

πŸ™‚ At tama ang sabi nila, in terms of acting and screenplay hindi masyadong maganda.
But still the ‘fictional’ storyline is very compelling.

  7. cutout figures… yan nga naririnig ko. baka kasi too much information from the novel na ipinasok sa 2 and 1/2 hours na pelikula. dito kaya sa US, ano kaya ang rating?

  9. hubby and i are wondering the same thing: why the noise over the movie but when the book was such a hot topic, quiet ang mga gunggong na yan? (sorry, totoo naman kasi po). it’s very insulting nga na ang dating ay the movie will do more damage kasi the ordinary filipino does not read.

and the publicity generated will only make people more curious and see the film, if only to see what all the fuss is about. never mind na bad ang reviews. personally kami wala talagang balak manood ever since it was confirmed that tom hanks would be playing robert langdon. hindi bagay. halatang kinuha lang siya for the “star quality”. plus, great books rarely make a successful move onto the big screen.

  10. I think it’s just a matter of everyone getting in on the fray. nakikisawsaw ba at baka sila din e mapagusapan.

  11. just a movie? sorry but The novel/movie gives erroneous impressions of many things, among them some
fundamental truths of the Christian faith. The most serious are the following:
Jesus is not a divine Person. He is only human. He married Mary Magdalene and had
children.Brown makes these claims through fictional accounts that give the impression of
historical accuracy due to frequent reference to events. He employs the tool of unraveling
the alleged secrets of the Church through the interpretation of symbols and codes hidden
in works of art, notably Leonardo Da VinciΒ’s The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa.

Some of you say if you ‘re faith is strong you will not be affected. This is not about faith but respect to the beliefs of others.

What if I make a movie about Erano Manalo having sex with his sister? or I make a novel about your mother having sex with her children and tell you novel lang naman yon eh. Kwento lang naman.

So who among the readers here will agree to have his/her mother potrayed as a sex maniac…anyway novel lanag naman….any volunteer?

    rock manila

  12. I’ve read the book but has to see the movie yet. I can say that the claims about Jesus is quite compelling. There’s a tendency for other people to misinterpret those claims as truth. I wouldn’t say those are a lies either. Brown has convincingly interwoven his plot so it comes out believable enough. Those who have weak faith in Jesus and gullible enough would probably believe it. But those who knows it’s just fiction will stand by their full or lack of faith, whicever.

  13. Vatican: We have some concerns about your movie. It may affect the viewpoint of some people whose faith is already shaky.

Producers: Yes. So please issue statements to your followers. Tell them the movie is heretical, blasphemous, rubbish.

Vatican: But that will make them want to go watch the movie more!

Producers: Yes, we know. We will donate a large part of the profit to the Church.

    Vatican: Ah. Ok.

*** This is a work of fiction.

  14. IMHO, if anybody thinks that his or her sensibilities will be affected by a movie or a book or some piece of music then he or shouldn’t watch, read or listen to it. it’s that simple.

so read my lips – it’s only a movie.

  15. thank you sissy cyrine. i agree – now with the banning of the film and all the talk on suppression, people will now watch it even more. ron howard is laughing all the way to the bank even if he made a so-so movie.

  16. Tito Rolly – yan nga ang problema ko. pag mayroon grupo ng tao na nagmamarunong at nagsasabi na this movie should be banned because it’s not good for you.

  17. My opinion about the matter is that it should be left to the individual whether to believe or be affected by the movie.

We know it’s fiction. Pero, what if totoo nga ang claim? So what if he got married and had a child? It does not make him a maniac or less divine. I think the most important is how he inspired people to respect and love one another.

The bottomline is, faith in Jesus. Kung nagasawa sya at nagkaanak, wouldn’t that be fulfillment of the 7 sacraments?

  18. i was watching jon stewart’s daily show last week and they were making fun of the news about the city of manila banning the movie because it was… “undoubtedly offensive and contrary to established religious beliefs”. sumigaw pa nga siya ng – IT’S ONLY A MOVIE!”

kung ako yon, isisigaw ko – “IT’S ONLY A MOVIE THAT’S REALLY REALLY BAD AND DOESN’T DESERVE OUR ADDED ATTENTION”

  19. ok if there is nothing wrong with the movie/book, why is there nobody willing to volunteer to my chalenge? This movie/book offended the sensibilities/belief of the Christian Faith. The Christian faith deserves respect. So what if this is only a movie? Do we just tolerate the likes of Dan Brown, etc? Ok i repeat my challenge, who is willing to have their mother portrayed as a sex maniac? how about you elvis? anyway movie/novel lang naman eh……..

  22. of course it is unchristian to trash talk your mother because I respect your mother and I hope that even if you are a pagan or believe in a different god, please respect my belief on the divinity of Jesus and dont trash talk Jesus……. let us respect our faith…that is the only request that I have for you….and that is what i want from the authors/filmakers to respect the beliefs of others….salamat po….

  23. sorry my friend. if you’re stuck with all that crap about your mother and if you can’t accept other people’s points of view or are offended by my beliefs and what i write, there is a much easier way to solve your dilemma – go visit the websites of the people who share your outlook.

  24. of course i accept your belief but my request is to respect the beliefs of christians, muslims and all other religions. You have the balls to trash talk Jesus but can you do that to Prophet Mohammed?

  25. hi there brader batjay πŸ™‚

did you watch the movie ba? ako hindi dahil sabi ng lahat ng reviews, pangit!! so i decided not to waste my time and money and save it for over the hedge instead. pero dito sa pinas, siempre mentras sabihin mong bawal, lalong nanggigigil. lakas kasi ng imagination ni dan brown eh, it certainly stirred curiosity all over the world. buti na lang my faith is not shaken by things like these kasi to start with, fiction lang naman siya. FICTION. at although page turner yung libro, di naman siya gaanong literary actually πŸ™‚

  26. MISISPI!!!

no, i haven’t seen the movie yet. i am sitting on the fence deciding whether to wait for the DVD or waste my $10 ($20 pag kaiming dalawa ni jet) and go see the movie. with all the bad reviews i read, i am afraid that i too will be disappointed.

to date the movie has earned over $200M – that’s a lot of money. does it deserve all that it has earned? i don’t know. one thing’s for sure though, dan brown and ron howard can thank all the uptight christians who gave the film and book extra publicity.

  27. ha ha ha, actually πŸ™‚

i think it’s normal reaction for some christians to be indignant, ang mga muslim nga pag niloko si mohammed, nagwawala. but then, this is just a work of fiction and after all, God is in control, and a mere movie is not about to change an iota of who He is. nakakatawa nga dahil yung isang review sa sa Rotten Tomatoes, ganito naman ang sabi ..

“I’ll say it: It is anti-Jesus and anti-Catholic. Unintentionally though, it is a recruiting film for Opus Dei. Where do I sign up?”

so really, it’s just a controversial subject that a lot of sides are willing to pounce on for the sake of argument. at the end of the day, malilimutan din lahat yan, nothing new is proven, and the bible still stands πŸ™‚

  28. AMEN misispi. you took the words out of my mouth. personally for me, it’s just an entertaining story. i know it’s not a great book and i’d trade it anytime for any piece of work by john irving but it’s a great read when you’re in a 16 hour flight from singapore to the los angeles. in short – it’s just a story. a story to read when you’re bored.

  29. hi batjay! ako…tinulugan ko sya. the movie was bad.

but the book was interesting enough and gave a lot of food for thought. pero kahit na paulit-ulit nang nakasulat dito… fiction nga talaga sya. fiction lamang.

    hi jet!

  30. Rock Manila, who is talking trash about Jesus? Again: FICTION LANG YAN!! Even the fiction does not trash Jesus. If you think that portraying a movie of somebody else’s mother as a maniac is comparable to Jesus being married, then you have a problem.

Please read through the posts and see who’s trashing Jesus before you go out on your small crusade. Hey, that’s a good idea for a movie: Righteous Man’s Crusade!

  31. mr. rock, there was a time when the Catholic church excommunicated people who suggested that the world was round. point being… these events happened 2000 years ago. the bible was passed by word of mouth, by transcription of scrolls, by transalation — and you know that even the best translation cannot be 100% accurate. so… the best option is just to keep an open mind.
